Introducing our BGS Guernsy Dairy Goats

We have to thank Joan Stump of Stumphollow Farms, Diane Gray of Nanny Berry Farms and Kate  Posey of  Washington for allowing us to acquire these beautiful goats for our homestead.

I am so excited to have been able to purchase this wonderful starter group of BGS Guernsy Goats.  I have wanted this breed for years and they are so rare and still in development in the United States, breeding stock is not just hard, but nearly impossible to come by.  I started my goat career with Oberhasli Dairy Goats, another breed that was little known in the 1990's.  There was a lot of breeding up and improvement going on with the Oberhasli.  I had a small herd and showed in the New England Region and did well and was bit by the 'Goatie Bug'.  Goats are such wonderful creatures - my Oberhasli's were always my comic relief when I was having a bad day.  You could not - not laugh at their antics and they go out of their way to make you smile.

When I moved from Massachusetts to California in 1997, it became too difficult to continue with the dairy goats, so reluctantly, I sold the herd.  I have missed my goats and at the time, had become a novice Cheese Maker. I have longed to have the herd back and be able to make my cheeses and teach cheese classes again.

I never thought I would be able to find a few let alone a group of these wonderful goats.  Barry and I purchased our home in Aubrey in June and this is the perfect spot for our Homestead Farmstand.  I have made the decision to concentrate on the rarer and Heritage Breeds of Livestock.  I have always preferred the 'different' breeds to work with.

Our BG Guernseys  will be a great addition to our small menagerie. Guernsey Goats are known for their higher butterfat making it excellent for cheese making.

We welcome visitors to the Farm and will be happy to answer your questions about any of our livestock.
